The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Education Department), in collaboration with the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, organized a training workshop in Amman, Jordan, from 22 to 24 September 2026, entitled “AI Gateway: Advanced Applications of Generative and Agentic AI in Education, Research, and Innovation.”
The workshop brought together representatives from Jordanian public and private universities, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the Higher Council for Science and Technology, and the National Cyber Security Centre.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Osama Al-Habash, representative of ALECSO, conveyed the greetings of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, to all participants, along with his wishes for the success of the workshop. He noted that the meeting goes beyond discussing a passing technological trend, and instead addresses a qualitative transformation taking place in artificial intelligence, marked by the rapid transition from generative AI systems to agentic AI systems. This transition is accompanied by changes in the nature of the relationship between the human being and the machine, particularly in the fields of education, research, and innovation.
He stressed that this development calls for an informed vision that ensures the human mind remains at the center of educational, research, and innovation processes. It also requires clear knowledge-based, ethical, and governance frameworks for the use of agentic systems, thereby preserving the human role in guidance and decision-making while promoting the responsible and secure use of these technologies.
He further noted that keeping pace with this new generation of artificial intelligence does not conflict with the need to regulate its use. Rather, it requires strengthening Arab understanding of emerging technological transformations and directly connecting them to the needs of educational and research institutions, as well as to the educational realities of Arab countries.
The workshop covered a range of practical topics focusing on the use of artificial intelligence to develop educational and research institutions and practices. Key topics included:
- AI applications in developing smart educational resources.
- Prompt and context engineering, and the development of effective approaches to interacting with AI models.
- Generative and agentic AI and their applications in data analytics and decision support.
- Data protection and information security in educational and research institutions.
The workshop is part of ALECSO’s efforts to strengthen Arab capacity-building in the fields of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and to support educational and research institutions in developing responsible and effective practices for deploying emerging technologies. These efforts contribute to building education and research systems that are better equipped to respond to rapid scientific and technological transformations.
