H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, announced, on October 2, 2026, the launch of the “Arab International Network for International Commercial Arbitration,” under the patronage of ALECSO, the supervision of the University of Tunis El Manar, and the leadership of Dr. Najet Brahmi, Director of the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration. The announcement followed the launch, at ALECSO headquarters in Tunis, of the Brainstorming Programme on International Commercial Arbitration.
The event was attended by senior officials from ALECSO and the University of Tunis El Manar, representatives of various legal bodies and institutions, and prominent legal authorities in Tunisia, alongside leading experts and specialists in international commercial arbitration from Tunisia and several other countries.
In his opening remarks, the Director-General welcomed all participants and expressed his great pleasure at the strong participation in this significant intellectual event, organized by the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration under the title “ALECSO Brainstorming Programme.” He noted that the Programme would mark the effective launch of the Arab International Network for International Commercial Arbitration.
The Director-General emphasized that the launch of the “ALECSO Brainstorming Programme,” followed by the establishment of the Arab International Network for International Commercial Arbitration, aims to monitor, analyze, and follow up on developments and changes in the field of international commercial arbitration, while ensuring the highest quality of its work in accordance with international standards. He commended the Network’s initial composition, which brings together a distinguished group of leading arbitration scholars from Tunisia and other countries.
The Director-General also reaffirmed ALECSO’s commitment to supporting the efforts of its academic Chairs to promote intellectual dialogue and reliable scientific studies and research at the Arab, regional, and international levels, with the hope that their outcomes will reach policymakers. He stressed that ALECSO is today more determined than ever to strengthen cooperation among Arab and international universities, research centers, and institutions. He noted that ALECSO’s academic Chairs represent specialized centers of expertise, each working to implement academic and research programmes in accordance with the needs of Arab countries, with the aim of fostering scientific and knowledge integration in the service of humanity as a whole.
The Director-General concluded by extending his thanks to all partners and organizers who contributed to the successful preparation of this significant academic event, and by wishing the organizers of the Programme and the Network every success in their endeavors.
Other speakers underscored that the launch of the Arab International Network for International Commercial Arbitration represents a significant step toward providing a platform for communication and cooperation among arbitration specialists, as well as an opportunity to strengthen the exchange of legal and academic experience and expertise. This will contribute to the development of practices related to the settlement of commercial disputes at the Arab and international levels. They also emphasized the importance of linking arbitration with the various areas of the Organization’s work in the educational, cultural, and scientific fields.
The speakers further stressed that this initiative is particularly significant in light of growing international relations and the expanding scope of financial and commercial transactions and cross-border investments. These developments create an increasing need to establish specialized and effective mechanisms for the settlement of intra-Arab, regional, and international commercial disputes, given that international commercial arbitration lies at the heart of specialized international academic and legal cooperation.
The launch of the Arab International Network for International Commercial Arbitration comes within the broader context of the role that academic institutions, legal bodies, and centers of expertise can play in developing the international commercial arbitration system through education and training, the exchange of expertise and knowledge, and the networking of specialists.
The Arab International Network for International Commercial Arbitration is expected to serve as a reference framework for scientific cooperation among international commercial arbitration experts, researchers, and practitioners, as well as a solid legal platform for establishing and developing high-quality partnerships with various specialized bodies and institutions concerned with the areas of the Organization’s work, particularly international commercial arbitration. This will strengthen the presence of Arab and international expertise and contribute to advancing discussions on the future of international commercial arbitration and mechanisms for its development at both the Arab and international levels.
