On the sidelines of the International Conference for Palestinian Culture, convened in Madrid, Spain, on 15–16 July 2026, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, met with H.E. Mr. Ernest Urtasun Domènech, Minister of Culture of the Kingdom of Spain, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.
At the outset of the meeting, the Director-General expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government of Spain for organizing this significant international event, and for its continued efforts to support initiatives aimed at protecting Palestinian cultural heritage and preserving the cultural identity of the Palestinian people. He emphasized that culture constitutes a fundamental pillar of recovery, reconstruction, and lasting peace.
The meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between ALECSO and the Spanish Culture Ministry in the fields of culture and heritage. Both sides explored prospects for collaboration across areas of mutual interest, with a view to facilitating the exchange of expertise and implementing joint cultural initiatives that advance the objectives of sustainable cultural development.
For his part, the Spanish Minister commended ALECSO's role in promoting Arab culture and safeguarding cultural heritage. He reaffirmed Spain's commitment to strengthening cooperation with ALECSO across various cultural fields and to supporting joint initiatives that contribute to the protection of humanity's shared cultural heritage and the promotion of intercultural dialogue.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to engage in joint action in areas of mutual interest, pursue coordination and consultation to strengthen mechanisms for institutional cooperation, and launch joint cultural initiatives and programmes. While reflecting the deep-rooted cultural relations between ALECSO and the Kingdom of Spain, these joint efforts will contribute to protecting cultural heritage, advancing cultural development, and supporting international efforts to reconstruct the cultural landscape in Palestine.
