Under the supervision of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and as part of ALECSO's support for the Arab scientific research centers included in its 2025–2026 Roster, the Department of Science and Scientific Research and the Secretariat of the Executive Board and General Conference organized an Arab Scientific Forum on “Capacity-Building for the Use of Renewable Energy to Improve Air Quality, Strengthen Health Vigilance, and Promote the Sustainable Management of Medical and Hazardous Waste in the Arab States.” The Forum was held on 12–13 July 2026 in Algeria, in cooperation with the Research Center for Energy Semiconductor Technology, falling under the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the National Commission for Education, Science and Culture.
The Forum was generously hosted by the Renewable Energy Development Center and the Research Center for Energy Semiconductor Technology, one of the centers included in ALECSO's roster of research institutions specializing in renewable energy.
The Forum, which brought together prominent experts, researchers, and representatives of scientific institutions working in the fields of environment, health, and renewable energy from across the Arab region, featured scientific presentations, interactive working sessions, and panel discussions.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of Science and Scientific Research at ALECSO, conveyed the greetings of the Director-General to all participants. He stressed that the Forum is aligned with the objectives and implementation mechanisms of the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology and Innovation. Through this initiative, he added, ALECSO seeks to strengthen cooperation and networking among Arab scientific institutions and experts, intensify joint efforts to address environmental and health challenges, and foster Arab collaborative research partnerships capable of delivering practical and applicable solutions. He further noted that the Forum provides an opportunity to showcase the outstanding contributions of the Arab research centers included on ALECSO's Roster and to reinforce the role of ALECSO-affiliated Chairs, particularly those specializing in environmental and health sciences, in advancing knowledge production.
For his part, Dr. Mourad Mahmoudi, Secretary of the Executive Board and General Conference, highlighted the role of the relevant ALECSO Chairs in addressing environmental challenges and generating innovative solutions. He noted that the Forum offers a significant platform for interaction and collaboration with researchers and specialized research centers.
The Forum featured an exhibition showcasing scientific innovations and projects developed by researchers and students in the fields of renewable energy and air quality.
The Forum also included a series of specialized scientific and interactive sessions designed to strengthen capacities in the areas of energy transition, air quality, environmental health, and smart technologies for environmental and health applications. It also explored the role of ALECSO Chairs and Arab research centers in advancing sustainable development.
