Libyan Minister of Culture Receives ALECSO Director-General and Accompanying Delegation

 

H.E. Mr. Salem Al-Alam, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development of the State of Libya, received, on June 29, 2026 at the Ministry’s headquarters, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General ALECSO, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural partnerships and expand cooperation between the Libyan Ministry and ALECSO.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Khalifa Al-Hamadi, Director of the Office of International Cooperation at the Ministry; Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of Science and Scientific Research at ALECSO; and Mr. Abdelhadi Ghemari, Cultural Projects Coordinator at ALECSO.

The meeting addressed a number of issues of mutual interest, particularly enhancing cooperation in the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage as well as developing specialized programmes for the conservation and restoration of manuscripts. Discussions also focused on the preparation of a joint Arab cultural initiative to be chaired by the State of Libya, with the aim of strengthening the country's presence on the Arab cultural scene and reaffirming its role in advancing joint Arab cultural action.

The meeting further addressed mechanisms for organizing joint cultural events and programmes both within Libya and abroad, and reviewed the book on Libyan Visual Arts, published by ALECSO. It also discussed arrangements for organizing “Libyan Cultural Days” at ALECSO’s headquarters in Tunis, with a view to showcasing Libya's rich cultural diversity and distinguished civilizational heritage.

In addition, both sides discussed the current state of Libya's cultural and creative industries and explored ways to support their development and integrate them into joint programmes and projects. These efforts are intended to enhance the visibility of Libyan culture at the Arab and regional levels while reinforcing its contribution to sustainable development and promoting cultural and knowledge exchange.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Libyan Minister and the Director-General of ALECSO exchanged commemorative shields as a reflection of the strong relations between the two sides and their shared commitment to further strengthening cultural and knowledge cooperation in support of joint Arab cultural action and future strategic partnerships.
