Under the supervision of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and in alignment with the objectives of the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology, and Innovation, the program titled “Strategic Pathways for Excellence in Higher Education” was launched on June 19, 2026, in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
The program was organized by ALECSO’s Department of Science and Scientific Research in collaboration with the Mauritanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It was held alongside a training program titled “Water Resources, SDGs, and Strategic Cooperation,” implemented in partnership with the University of Nouakchott.
Both programs targeted higher education officials, policymakers, academics, researchers, and postgraduate students.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of Science and Scientific Research at ALECSO, started by conveying the greetings of the Director-General. He emphasized that investment in higher education and scientific research constitutes a fundamental pillar for enhancing the competitiveness of Arab countries and achieving sustainable development, through building robust knowledge systems capable of generating and effectively utilizing knowledge. He further noted that the water resources program falls within ALECSO’s broader efforts to strengthen cooperation among Arab universities and research institutions, and to develop joint scientific projects addressing water-related challenges and sustainability.
The programs featured the participation of prominent Arab experts who delivered presentations and training sessions on key topics, including quality assurance, academic accreditation, institutional excellence, the development of joint research projects, funding mechanisms, university rankings, strengthening research capacities in water resources, and advancing projects related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These initiatives form part of ALECSO’s ongoing efforts to advance scientific research and foster sustainable academic partnerships that support development priorities in Arab countries.
