The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Secretariat of the Executive Board and General Conference – National Commissions Section) organized, in collaboration with the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration at Tunis El-Manar University, the fourth edition of the “ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration” Days, under the theme : “Arbitration – Innovation – Excellence.” The event was held at ALECSO headquarters on May 20-21, 2026.
The opening session featured remarks by Mr. Amine Dahmani, Head of the National Commissions Section; Dr. Moez Chafra, President of Tunis El-Manar University, represented by Dr. Asma Gati, Vice-President of the University; Dr. Mustapha Ben Letaief, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science; Dr. Najet Brahmi, Head of the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration; and Dr. Ahmed Ben Taleb, Director of the Doctoral School at Tunis El-Manar University.
The first day’s program included the presentation of the third issue of the Arab Journal of ALECSO Chairs, the launch of the ALECSO Chair’s brainstorming series on international commercial arbitration, and the introduction of an English-language moot court initiative. Participants also attended the presentation and signing of publications on corporate social and environmental responsibility, along with a celebration marking the fourth anniversary of the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration.
The second day featured an English-language Arbitration Moot Court Competition, viewed by the Chair as an innovative pedagogical tool that enhances practical legal training and prepares students for careers in international arbitration. The competition brought together students who had completed more than a month of training under the supervision of a team of specialized professors, with top performers honored during an awards ceremony.
During the second day, Mr. Mourad Mahmoudi, Secretary of the Executive Board and General Conference of ALECSO, addressed the participants on behalf of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO.
The event concluded with a tribute to the professors and students participating in this event, along with the presentation of certificates of participation, a gesture that reflects ALECSO’s appreciation for the valuable academic contributions of Tunis El-Manar University and the efforts of all those who contributed to the success of this scientific gathering.
The closing activities were held on May 22, 2026 at the Faculty of Law and Political Science.
Key recommendations :
- Expand of the Arbitration Moot Court experience in future editions to include students from Arab countries;
- Provide outstanding students with international opportunities, by facilitating their participation in moot court competitions organized by European universities, particularly in Paris and Stockholm;
- Establish the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration Award for the Best Written Pleading, with the aim of promoting academic excellence in international commercial arbitration.
