ALECSO Director-General participates in 117th session of the Economic and Social Council

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part in the meetings of the Social and Economic Committees emanating from the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States. The meetings were held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Cairo from 1 to 3 February 2026.

The meeting agenda included follow-up on the implementation of the decisions adopted at the previous session, along with a review of the Arab League General Secretariat’s economic activities during the period between the two sessions.

Discussions also addressed the economic file submitted to the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit level, scheduled to convene for its 35th  regular session later this year in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The meeting addressed developments concerning the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and recent progress in the Arab Customs Union project, both regarded as key pillars for strengthening intra-Arab trade and advancing economic integration.  It also examined issues related to investment in Arab countries, the draft statute of the Council of Arab Ministers of Trade, along with a proposal to establish an Arab Ministerial Council for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies,  in light of the growing role of digital economy in promoting sustainable development and enhancing the competitiveness of Arab economies.

The Director-General’s participation in these meetings reflects ALECSO’s keenness to contribute to strategic Arab discussions and foster greater integration between economic, social, and cultural policies, in pursuit of the goals of joint Arab action.
