ALECSO and Katara launch “Arab Opera Platform”

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Katara Cultural Village Foundation announced, on December 9, 2025, the launch of the Arab Opera Platform, designed to serve as a digital reference for Arab opera houses, documenting Arab opera productions and presenting them to audiences across the Arab world.

The platform was announced during the First Arab Opera Festival hosted by Katara, with the participation of opera houses and artists from 15 Arab countries, as part of promoting cultural cooperation and developing the opera industry in the region.

ALECSO also announced the selection of Katara as “Arab Opera City”, in recognition of its efforts in supporting musical arts and the opera industry, as well as its contributions to celebrating and preserving Arab cultural and artistic heritage.

The new platform seeks to unify Arab efforts in this refined art form, by collecting and documenting performances, festivals, and training programs, thereby contributing to spreading Arab opera culture, expanding its audience base, and providing greater opportunities for Arab artists and composers to present works that reflect the Arab artistic identity.

ALECSO and Katara consider this initiative a strategic step toward building an integrated Arab opera ecosystem, enhancing the status of the fine arts in the Arab world, and stimulating artistic creativity and cultural exchange among Arab countries.
