The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) joins international and regional organizations, as well as all countries of the world, in commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) on December 10, 2025. As the first and most significant international human rights instrument, the Declaration remains the primary reference for shared universal values and provides the legal and ethical framework for upholding the dignity and the inalienable and indivisible rights of all human beings.
The theme chosen for this year’s celebration—“Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials”—conveys a universal message that renews faith in the necessity of peaceful coexistence among peoples, and reinforces an unwavering commitment to the human values enshrined in this historic document, which established human rights as a common asset for all humanity.
The escalation of conflicts and humanitarian crises worldwide, coupled with the widening developmental gap between nations, can only strengthen the international community’s determination to advance the global human rights protection system. It underscores the need to realize these rights within an environment of security and peace, and within a fair and balanced international order founded on solidarity, mutual respect, and the rule of international law.
Human Rights Day offers governments and civil society an opportunity to assess the extent to which international human rights conventions and covenants are respected, and to renew their commitment to them. It also provides a renewed occasion to examine the state of human rights globally and to intensify efforts toward fulfilling obligations through effective enforcement mechanisms and the enactment of supportive national legislation.
Human Rights Day is also an opportunity for ALECSO to reaffirm its principled and unwavering position on the Palestinian Cause, and its continued support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle to exercise their right to self-determination and to establish their independent and sovereign State on their entire national territory, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Human Rights Day occupies a central place in ALECSO’s programs. It serves as a guiding compass for its work, in cooperation with various international and regional organizations, to launch initiatives addressing the most pressing human rights challenges, including poverty, discrimination, and violence.
Through its educational, cultural, and scientific activities, ALECSO remains committed to building an Arab society that aspires for a world founded on justice, solidarity, and cooperation. It also strives to raise awareness of the values of justice and human dignity for every individual, without distinction based on gender, race, or origin.
