ALECSO participates in Arab League’s celebration of World Arabic Language Day

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part in the event organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on 18 December 2025 at its headquarters in Cairo, to celebrate “World Arabic Language Day”, held under the theme: “Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers: Context and Achievements.”

This celebration marked the anniversary of the UNGA Resolution 3190 which designated Arabic as an official language of the United Nations.

The event was held as part of a strategic partnership between the Arab League General Secretariat and the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, aimed at enhancing the status of the Arabic language and strengthening its presence as a means of communication and a unifying culture capable of keeping pace with contemporary transformations.

The celebration was attended by a high-level diplomatic and cultural audience, including ambassadors and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, along with prominent religious and cultural figures.  ALECSO was represented by Dr. Humaid Al-Nofali, Director of Culture. There was also a wide participation from international students from various nationalities studying at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, reflecting the global spread of the Arabic language and its ability to attract learners from diverse cultures.

The event addressed the current state of teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in universities and international centers, and the related challenges, as well as the role of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in supporting the learning and dissemination of the Arabic language. In this context, Dr. Al-Nofali delivered a presentation in which he highlighted the efforts invested by ALECSO and the League of Arab States to advance the Arabic language and strengthen its presence at the regional and international levels.
