The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization hosted, on 25 December 25, 2025 at its headquarters in Tunis, the opening of an International Conference on Smart and Emerging Technologies. The conference was organized in collaboration with the Maghreb University of Science and Technology, with the participation of researchers, experts, and decision-makers from the Arab world and beyond.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT at ALECSO, conveyed the greetings of the Director-General to all participants. He emphasized ALECSO’s pride in strengthening its academic partnerships and in hosting such international scientific events. He noted that organizing this conference falls within ALECSO’s strategic vision to support scientific research and innovation, enhance integration between academic knowledge and practical applications, and build bridges of cooperation between Arab and international institutions in order to keep pace with rapid developments in artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
Dr. Jemni stressed the particular attention that ALECSO attaches to the ethical dimensions accompanying technological progress, highlighting, in this regard, the official launch of the ALECSO Charter for AI Ethics in June 2025. This Charter is designed to promote the responsible, fair, and safe use of artificial intelligence in education, culture, and scientific research, in alignment with Arab values and international standards. He also affirmed ALECSO’s continued convening of the annual Arab International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, which serves as a significant platform for sharing expertise and anticipating future transformations in this field. He indicated that the University of Oran will host the third edition of this event under the theme: “From Generative AI to AI Agents… the Evolution Continues.”
Dr. Jemni concluded by renewing his thanks to the organizers of the Conference, to the academic and scientific partners, particularly the Maghreb University of Science and Technology, as well as to the members of the scientific and organizing committees and to all participants. He expressed the wish that the Conference would yield impactful scientific outcomes that serve joint Arab action in the technological field.
The Conference program featured several scientific sessions and specialized workshops addressing the latest developments in smart technologies and their practical applications, as well as the prospects for harnessing them to support sustainable development and build knowledge societies in the Arab world.
