A regional workshop aimed at strengthening Arab capacities in the restoration and preservation of heritage sites and monuments was inaugurated on December 27, 2025 in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The workshop was jointly organized by ALECSO and the Lebanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture.
The opening session was led by Dr. Humaid Al-Nofali, Director of Culture at ALECSO; Dr. Youssef Badr Mashari, Director of Culture and Dialogue of Civilizations at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States; and Ms. Amira Al-Solh, Secretary-General of the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO. It was also attended by a representative of the Lebanese Minister of Culture, as well as by representatives of several Arab countries and a number of heritage experts.
The event involved specialized training sessions and technical workshops addressing modern restoration methods and mechanisms for protecting historical sites from deterioration and damage.
The workshop highlighted the importance of preserving Arab cultural identity, particularly in light of the challenges facing many Arab countries due to conflicts and climate change impacts. It also underscored the vital role of cooperation between ALECSO and Arab National Commissions in coordinating efforts and providing technical and professional support for heritage projects.
This initiative is part of a series of regional programs aimed at strengthening joint Arab action in cultural heritage preservation, and offering opportunities for relevant experts and specialists to share best practices and learn about the latest international standards in the field of heritage restoration.
