The Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), represented by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT, took part in the GSENet Webinar Series, held remotely on February 28, 2025 under the theme of “Is AI a smart solution for transforming higher education?”, with the participation of prominent international experts and specialists in AI and digital education.
The Webinar is part of the efforts of the Global Smart Education Network (GSENet), of which ALECSO is a founding member, to enhance innovation in higher education through the use of AI and smart technologies.
Addressing the Webinar, Dr. Jemni reviewed ALECSO's efforts to promote the use of AI in education, including the organization of workshops and training programs to raise awareness about AI applications and ethics, in addition to supporting scientific research in this field. He also highlighted the importance of enhancing open educational resources (OERS) via ALECSO's OER Hub which aims to promote inclusive and open digital education in Arab countries.
Dr. Jemni addressed the major challenges facing higher education in the Arab world, including the digital divide, disparities in digital awareness among teachers and students, and the need to ensure the equitable and ethical use of AI. He reiterated ALECSO's commitment to continue supporting regional and international efforts to enhance the use of AI in education, as well as to increase collaboration between Arab countries and international partners to promote sustainable and inclusive digital education.
