ALECSO participates in Sharjah International Conference on AI and Linguistics

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part in the 2024 Sharjah International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Linguistics (SICAL), held at the American University of Sharjah, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. 

The Conference reflects the growing importance of AI in developing linguistics and enhancing global communication while preserving cultural and linguistic diversity.

Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT at ALECSO, offered a presentation titled “AI-Driven Multilingualism: Opportunities and Challenges” in which he highlighted ALECSO’s efforts to promote multilingualism through Artificial Intelligence. He addressed the technological innovations offered by ALECSO to overcome the challenges facing languages, emphasizing the importance of linking AI with linguistics to achieve scientific advancement, while adhering to ethical standards.

The Conference was attended by prominent academics and international experts. It featured discussion panels that addressed the impact of AI on government policy, education,  industry, and other fields, with focus on the ethical dimensions of this advanced technology. 

Among the attendees was HE Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees and President of the American University of Sharjah, who, in her welcome address, underlined the role of AI in supporting culture and global communication.

Also present was Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Scholar Research Center, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and academic institutions to advance AI-related research and studies.

Several prominent parties were involved in the organization of the Sharjah Conference, including the American University of Sharjah, Sharjah Government, and Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), along with sponsors such as Gulf Business Machines (GBM) and Geminos Group.
