ALECSO Director-General participates in “World Heritage Day” celebration

 

At the invitation of the Emirates Heritage Club of Zayed Center for Studies and Research, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, participated, on April 17, 2023, in a celebration marking the World Heritage Day.

In a statement broadcast by videoconferencing, the Director-General highlighted the importance of celebrating this global event and the significant role played by ALECSO in promoting and safeguarding cultural heritage. He reviewed, in this regard, the main achievements of ALECSO in this broad field, indicating that the Organization stands ready to continue preserving tangible and intangible heritage by increasing community awareness about its importance.

The Director-General noted that ALECSO’s work in the heritage field is not limited to major projects, but rather involves implementing several periodic activities with specific goals, based on an accurate diagnosis of the needs of Arab countries, as well as enhancing the capacities of heritage specialists and enabling them to keep abreast of relevant changes and transformations. He referred, in this same context, to the series of training courses launched since 2013, which covered several topics and had a significant impact on joint Arab programs and projects. This is in addition to other programs such as the Arab Heritage Award whose 3rd edition will be soon organized, following the success of the first two editions which were marked by a large participation of heritage researchers, specialists and institutions.

The Director-General also stressed the great interest that ALECSO attaches to museums and to their visitors and managers, recalling in this regard the “Cultural Guide” program implemented as part of cooperation with H.H. Sheikha Alyazia Bint Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, ALECSO Ambassador Extraordinary for Arab Culture, which has created significant dynamism in Arab museums.

At the end of his statement, the Director-General commended the significant role and initiatives of the Emirates Heritage Club to enhance and preserve cultural heritage, so that it remains a key component  of the history of nations and civilizations.
