The fourth edition of the Arab Media Congress kicked off on May 22, 2025, in Baghdad, Capital of Iraq. The event is jointly organized by the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) and the Iraqi Media Network. The opening session was attended by ASBU President and CEO of the Saudi Broadcasting Authority Mr. Mohammed Al-Harithi, ASBU Director-General Eng. Abdulrahim Suleiman, the Iraqi Prime Minister’s representative Mr. Aref Al-Saadi, along with representatives of member Arab countries and organizations.
At the gracious invitation of the Arab States Broadcasting Union, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part in this event.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Mohammed Al-Harithi underlined the importance of fostering community dialogue on environmental protection and highlighted the critical role of media in raising public awareness about the threats facing the environment.
For his part, Eng. Abdulrahim Suleiman thanked the government and people of Iraq for their warm welcome and for hosting the conference, held for the first time outside Tunisia, ASBU’s host country. He welcomed the directors-general of the participating Arab organizations, and underscored the significant role of Arab institutions—each within its area of expertise—in enhancing environmental awareness and ensuring a healthy life on the Planet.
“The Role of Media in Addressing Climate Change” was the theme chosen for this event which ran over three days and brought together over 150 Arab media professionals.
The Arab Media Congress aimed to develop the Arab media landscape by establishing modern media and technological mechanisms aligned with contemporary requirements, and by creating conditions that enable Arab media professionals to keep pace with global developments in media and digital fields in relation to the environment, amid the threats of climate change facing the Arab region and the world as a whole.
Participants explored the mechanisms through which the Arab media can keep pace with current climate challenges, and the role of the media in raising public awareness about environmental issues.
