H.E. Mr. Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, received, on May 21, 2025, the Director-General of ALECSO, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, in the presence of the Iraqi Minister of Education.
The Prime Minister reiterated the Iraqi government's strong focus on education and higher education, which occupy a significant place in the Government’s agenda. He reviewed achievements in terms of school construction, infrastructure development, combating illiteracy, and reducing school dropouts through the "Back to Learning" program. He also highlighted the government’s student scholarship programs for studying at international universities, and its efforts to attract Arab and foreign students to study in Iraq.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Iraqi government's support for ALECSO, and its willingness to cooperate in such areas as teacher training, exchange of expertise, and digital education initiatives, as well as in cultural heritage preservation and recovery of stolen antiquities.
For his part, the Director-General congratulated the Prime Minister on Iraq’s successful hosting of the Arab and Development Summits and the Arab Media Congress. He expressed readiness to boost cooperation in the fields of education, culture, and scientific research and expressed appreciation of Iraq’s urban development. He also briefed the Prime Minister on ALECSO’s programs for the coming years.
