H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Chairperson of the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action, chaired the 57th session of the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action, held on April 16, 2025 at ALECSO headquarters in Tunis. The session saw the participation of heads of joint Arab action organizations and institutions.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, for hosting the 57th session of the Committee. He also extended deep thanks to the President, Government and people of Tunisia, the ALECSO host country, for facilitating the work of the Organization so that it can carry out its mandate in optimal conditions.
The Secretary-General commended the vital role undertaken by ALECSO as one of the Arab specialized organizations in education, culture, and science, highlighting its achievements over more than 55 years, and its contribution to building the knowledge society and advancing education, science and scientific research in the Arab world. He emphasized the importance of further coordinating joint Arab action, and called for greater focus on artificial intelligence and for expanding knowledge in this field.
The Secretary-General also stressed the necessity of supporting the Palestinian people who are facing a genocidal war, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar noted that the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action is one of the mechanisms that brings together specialized Arab organizations and institutions to unify Arab efforts to serve common goals, in pursuit of a promising unified Arab project. This, he added, would enhance their role to be more effective in addressing issues, proposing solutions, and developing future-oriented strategic visions and plans within the global framework.
During this session, ALECSO launched the French edition of the Arab League Secretary-General’s book entitled :"Witness to War and Peace".
Dr. Ould Amar also took this opportunity to present Mr. Aboul Gheit with the ALECSO highest Honorary Shield, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in supporting and promoting joint Arab action.
The meeting heard presentations by specialized Arab organizations on their plans for the future. It also adopted the recommendations of the Expert Committee, which met on April 14–15, 2025 at ALECSO headquarters.
Recommendations focused particularly on:
- The role of joint Arab action organizations and institutions in supporting post-conflict countries, including reconstruction projects in Gaza and Syria
- AI use and AI ethics
- Support for implementing the Arab League Secretary-General’s initiative for the Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities (2023–2032)
Launching the Arab Digital Platform for Sustainable Development.
