ALECSO awards first “Order of Arab Cultural Merit” to Ruler of Sharjah

A ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), on April 15, 2025,  to present His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, with the Order of Arab Cultural Merit, the first of its kind to be awarded by ALECSO.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, who represented H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, along with ambassadors accredited to the Republic of Tunisia, and other distinguished guests.

In his remarks on this occasion, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, welcomed all guests, and paid tribute to H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi as an exceptional figure, by all standards, in all humanitarian, intellectual, and knowledge fields, which has qualified him to be the first recipient of the Order of Arab Cultural Merit. He highlighted his valuable contributions in the cultural field at the local, Arab, and international levels. He noted that Sheikh Sultan’s name has always been associated with the promotion of Arab culture, both within the Arab world and beyond, through pioneering initiatives and innovative cultural projects.

During the event, remarks were delivered (virtually) by H.E. Salem Bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture and Youth of the United Arab Emirates, and also by H.E. Mr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah.

The ceremony also featured a video presentation showcasing some of the most significant cultural achievements and contributions of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi.

The Order of Arab Cultural Merit—of the highest class—is a prestigious award granted by ALECSO to individuals, organizations, or institutions that have made outstanding contributions to Arab culture.
