The Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held, on April 7-9, 2025 at the University of Jordan, a training workshop on “E-learning and Smart Education in Higher Education”, in collaboration with the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science.

The opening session was attended by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT at ALECSO, Dr. Lara Fawzan, Head of the Culture, Science, and Communication Department at the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, Dr. Belhassan Ketat and Dr. Ramzi Farhat, workshop facilitators, along with 40 participants from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education.

Speaking on behalf of Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, Dr. Mohamed Jemni conveyed the Director-General’s greetings and wishes for the success of the workshop, and thanked the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science for its cooperation with ALECSO in the preparation of this event. He stressed that ALECSO spares no effort in collaborating with Member States to promote capacity-building in all its fields of action.

Dr. Jemni pointed out that e-learning is now one of the key trends in education, offering teachers, instructors, and students the opportunity to interact in modern ways, and enhancing access to diverse knowledge sources and up-to-date learning content. Smart education, he added, relies on the use of new technologies, like artificial intelligence and big data analytics, to provide a personalized learning experience that meets the needs of each learner.

For her part, Dr. Lara Fawzan noted that the rapid advances in modern technology have given rise to new learning patterns, including e-learning, which, she added, supports the educational process by transforming it from rote learning to creativity, interaction, and skill development.
