The Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, and the Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, H.E. Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, inaugurated, on February 13, 2025, the “Kuwait, Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025” event. The ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, diplomats, and media and cultural personalities from across the Arab world.
In his remarks on this occasion, the Director-General congratulated the Leadership, Government, and people of the State of Kuwait on the opening of this significant and inspiring cultural event, which offers a unique opportunity to rediscover Kuwait and celebrate its rich cultural, scientific, and literary history. He also congratulated Kuwait for selecting the late Kuwaiti poet and intellectual, Ahmad Al-Adwani, as one of the symbols of Arab culture, indicating that ALECSO will honor this poet during the celebration of “Arab Poetry Day” this year.
For his part, the Kuwaiti Information and Culture Minister stated in his opening remarks : “It is my honor and pleasure to be among here today representing His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect him, who attaches great importance to culture and media, given their key role in building society, enhancing national identity, and consolidating the values of openness and development.”
The Minister stressed that the launch of the “Kuwait, Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025" event reflects the flagship role of Kuwait and its valuable and rich contributions, through art, culture and media, to enhancing Arab culture as a key element in fostering communication and mutual understanding among peoples. He commended the role of ALECSO and the Arab Information Ministers Council in selecting Kuwait as Capital of Arab Culture and Media for 2025, and for their unwavering support for culture and media in all their forms. He emphasized the importance of supporting cultural and media action, enhancing intellectual production, developing and disseminating knowledge, and providing an enabling environment for creativity.
On the occasion of this celebration, the Director-General of ALECSO offered the "Kuwait : Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025" Shield to the Kuwaiti Information and Culture Minister.
