The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) launched, on December 15, 2024, the "Power of Culture for Peace" program from the Republic of Sudan.
The event was attended by the Minister of Culture and Information and the Official Spokesperson for the Sudanese Government, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and the ALECSO representative. Thirty (30) participants from the Sudanese Ministry of Culture, along with cultural leaders, media figures, and local actors, benefited from this five-day program.
In his statement on this occasion, H.E. Mr. Khaled Ali Al-Eaysir, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Sudan, extended his greetings and appreciation to ALECSO, particularly to Director-General H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, for the support provided to Sudan at this critical period of its history. He indicated that this unique program would undoubtedly contribute to strengthening and safeguarding the cultural identity of the Sudanese nation and promote the values of coexistence among the Sudanese people. It will also provide participants with practical expertise on how to leverage the power of culture to promote peace.
The “Power of Culture for Peace” program seeks to harness the power of culture to maintain social cohesion during times of crisis, by enhancing cultural and social commonalities, raising awareness of the shared destiny, and rebuilding social bonds and the values of solidarity among community members. It also seeks to diversify pathways for dialogue and build bridges of communication between communities in order to foster mutual understanding and acceptance of differences.
The program focuses on building mutual trust among conflicting parties, highlighting cultural commonalities to ease social tensions, enhancing dialogue and understanding through shared cultural values, and creating a more open and tolerant environment. The tools of the program include strengthening cultural identity, fostering the sense of belonging, consolidating social ties, promoting cultural rights, enhancing development, and building positive relations among individuals and communities.
