ALECSO holds 9th  Meeting of Liaison Officers of the   Arab Architectural and Urban Heritage Observatory

 

The Ninth Meeting of the Architectural and Urban Heritage Observatory in the Arab States kicked off on November 15, 2024 at ALECSO headquarters. 

The two-day meeting was attended by representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, and Mauritania, along with a number of Arab experts in relevant fields. 

Participants in the meeting discussed several issues, including the working mechanisms of the Committee on the Architectural and Urban Heritage Register, along with the procedures for submitting nominations for inclusion in the Register. They also addressed the challenges facing architectural and urban heritage in the Palestinian territories.

The meeting was an opportunity to showcase various experiences in preserving architectural and urban heritage in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco, and Libya. It also included a practical section, which involved a nomination file model for the inscription of Aden’s Cisterns, proposed by Yemen, along with training on how to use the nomination form based on the model of the Iraqi city of Samarra.
