The “Arab Week at UNESCO” initiative, organized by the Arab Group at UNESCO, kicked off in Paris, France, with the participation of representatives of the permanent delegations of Arab countries at UNESCO, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps of Arab and foreign countries accredited to the French Republic, as well as a number of officials and leaders from UNESCO.
The event was inaugurated by H.E. Ms. Leena Al-Hadid, Ambassador of Jordan to France and Permanent Representative of the Arab Group at UNESCO, who stated that this initiative provides an opportunity to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world, and the long history of Arab contributions to science, philosophy, literature, and arts.
During the “Arab Week at UNESCO”, 22 pavilions were dedicated for Arab countries to showcase aspects of their cultural, historical, and civilizational heritage..
As part of this event, seven seminars were held, covering various topics including Arabic language, calligraphy, literature, artificial intelligence, education and fine arts, and intangible cultural heritage.
ALECSO contributed to the event with a statement by its Director-General, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, along with presentations by ALECSO heritage experts who highlighted the Organization’s efforts in the field of cultural heritage.
The event featured various parallel activities, including traditional Arabic fashion shows, handicraft exhibitions, musical performances, and Arab culinary displays. Additionally, four exhibitions were held: culture exhibition, Arabic calligraphy exhibition, a photo exhibition of Arab heritage sites, and an exhibition of Arab cultural products.
The “Arab Week at UNESCO” initiative, launched for the first time by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has contributed to developing new visions for future cooperation among Arab countries.
