Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, the first edition of the ALECSO Conference for the Visually Impaired in Arab Countries kicked off on November 4, 2024 at ALECSO headquarters, under the theme of “Ways to Develop Education for the Visually Impaired and Promote Policies for their Advancement.”
The two-day Conference saw the participation of representatives from the Tunisian Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Affairs, and Ministry of the Family, Women, Children, and the Elderly, along with experts and officials from Arab countries.
The Conference offered an opportunity to showcase the experiences of the participating countries in enhancing quality education for the visually impaired, and facilitating their integration into schools.
The Conference opened with a framework study prepared by Dr. Walid Zidi. The study proposed ways to improve education for the visually impaired, covering various areas including policies, teacher training, learning environments, and access to open learning sources for the visually impaired.
The Conference is designed to come out with recommendations that would help raise awareness about the need to develop education for the visually impaired in Arab countries and promote advocacy for their rights, as part of progress in implementing Goal 4 of the Agenda for Sustainable Development.
