On the sidelines of UNESCO’s “Digital Learning Week” (Paris – September 2-5, 2024), Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT Department at ALECSO, held a fruitful meeting with Dr. Tawfik Jelassi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information at UNESCO. The meeting was designed to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations in fields of shared interest.
During the meeting, Dr. Jemni provided a comprehensive overview of the current projects being implemented by ALECSO’s ICT Department, with focus on AI-related initiatives aimed at promoting education and culture in the Arab world through the use of cutting-edge technologies.
On behalf of ALECSO's Director-General, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Dr. Jemni extended an official invitation to Dr. Jelassi to participate in the “Second International Arab Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education,” scheduled to be held at ALECSO’s headquarters in Tunis on October 29-30, 2024. The conference will focus on generative AI and large language models. Dr. Jelassi expressed his gratitude for the invitation and confirmed his participation, thanking the Director-General for this kind initiative.
For his part, Dr. Jelassi commended the significant level of cooperation between ALECSO and UNESCO in areas of common interest such as AI in education, AI ethics, and open educational resources. He indicated that UNESCO is preparing to hold the “Third Conference on Open Educational Resources” in the UAE in November 2024. He renewed his invitation for ALECSO to participate in this important conference and in its preparatory meetings.
Both parties agreed to further strengthen collaboration in the future, including through the sharing of expertise and participation in joint events and projects. This cooperation will contribute to advancing the role of modern technology in education and culture at the regional and international levels.
