The Global Smart Education Conference kicked off on August 18, 2024 in Beijing, China, with over three thousand participants, including ministers, senior officials, and education policymakers from various countries.
The Conference, organized in collaboration between the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University, the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education in Moscow, and several partners including the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), serves as an international platform for promoting dialogue and cooperation in the field of smart education.
The Global Smart Education Conference is one of the major global events in the field of education, bringing together decision-makers and experts to discuss the latest developments and innovations in this area.
At the opening session, Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT Department, delivered a speech on behalf of Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO.
The Director-General started his speech by providing an overview of ALECSO, highlighting its role in enhancing cooperation among Arab countries in the fields of education, culture, and science. He stressed ALECSO’s commitment to supporting efforts to develop education in the Arab world by adopting the latest educational technologies and practices.
The Director-General emphasized the fruitful cooperation between ALECSO and China, which has yielded successful partnerships with the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University. These partnerships have produced tangible achievements in terms of sharing of expertise and development of joint educational projects aimed at improving the quality of education in the Arab region. He also highlighted the close collaboration with the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI), which has yielded significant studies on digital transformation in higher education in the Arab world.
In the same context, the Director-General commended the partnership with the "Children and Youth Science Center of the China Association for Science and Technology", and the significant scientific activities organized for Arab youth, including training workshops in modern technologies and space sciences.
The Director-General underlined ALECSO's strong focus on digital transformation as a key driver for sustainable development in the Arab world. He indicated that ALECSO spares no effort to support Arab countries in developing digital infrastructure, modernizing educational curricula, and training teachers in the use of modern technologies. He referred, in this regard, to the International Digital Solidarity initiative launched by ALECSO in collaboration with international partners during the Transforming Education Summit in New York, aimed at enhancing global cooperation in digital transformation. He also highlighted ALECSO’s various initiatives in the fields of educational technology and use of AI in education, and emphasized the key importance of further strengthening the Arab-Chinese cooperation in scientific research and cultural exchange, which helps achieve tangible progress in education and technology.
The Director-General concluded by reiterating his thanks to the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University for organizing this event, as well as to all participants, wishing the Conference successful outcomes.
