The Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (Culture Department) held, on August 15-17, 2024 in Cairo, Egypt, a Workshop on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage During Emergencies and Crises.
The workshop was organized jointly with the Sudanese National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the National Council of Cultural Heritage and Promotion of Languages in Sudan, and the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science, and Culture. It featured participants from a number of Arab countries, along with international experts specializing in intangible cultural heritage and the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The workshop covered several topics related to the 2003 Convention, including the key concepts of the Convention and the preparation of inventories and nomination files, particularly the joint Arab nomination files overseen by ALECSO in collaboration with Arab States.
Dr. Humaid Al-Nofali, Director of the Culture Department, delivered a speech, on behalf of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, in which he emphasized that ALECSO stands always ready to support and provide its experience and expertise to all Arab countries, especially those going through crises or exceptional circumstances.
