ALECSO holds Regional Workshop in Cairo on Protecting and Preserving Cultural Heritage

 

Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Neveen Al-Kilany, Minister of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Regional Workshop on “Protecting and Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage and Harnessing it for Sustainable Development in Arab Countries: Food Traditions as a Model” kicked off in Cairo, Egypt, on July 1, 2024.

The workshop was organized in cooperation between ALECSO, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Culture, and the Egypt National Commission for Education, Science and Culture.

The three-day workshop addressed food traditions as intangible cultural heritage, with presentations made by 13 experts focusing on food heritage and its technical, social and cultural dimensions. There were also presentations on food traditions in the Arab region.

The workshop was attended by forty (40) participants from relevant bodies and non-governmental organizations and academic researchers from Egypt and other Arab countries.

ALECSO was represented in this event by Dr. Hamid Al-Nofali, Director of the Culture Department, along with Mr. Abdelhedi Ghemari, Program Coordinator, and Dr. Imad Bin Soula, Expert, at the same Department.
