ALECSO organizes Panel on “AI Governance” during the International Artificial Intelligence, Technologies and Startups event

 

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) organized, on June 26, 2024,  a Panel on “AI Governance: Policies and Frameworks toward Responsible AI in Organizations”. This Panel was held as part of the International Artificial Intelligence, Technologies and Startups event (BigTech), which featured the participation of around 1,000 startups and leading companies in digital technology and innovation, along with a large number of experts and actors in the digital field to discuss and explore the latest technological developments related to AI and digital transformation in Tunisia and the African Continent. The event attracted over 20,000 visitors.

The ALECSO Panel was chaired by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT Department at ALECSO. Panelists were prominent AI experts and specialists, including :

  • Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor, Director-General of AICTO
  • Eng. Mario Franco, Founder & Chairperson of Millennium@EDU SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION
  • Ms. Jawaher Allala, Technology Policy Expert
  • Dr. Maledh Marrakchi, Researcher in AI and AI Ethics
  • Mr. Maher Gaida, Expert in Digital Governance and AI.

The Panel addressed a range of vital topics related to effective AI good governance and the ways to promote the responsible use of this advanced technology in various fields. Discussions focused on the importance of establishing ethical standards and regulations to ensure the optimal utilization of AI for the benefit of humanity.  Participants also showed significant interest in developing effective policies to ensure effective AI governance.

The Panel concluded with important recommendations aimed at enhancing collaboration among institutions and organizations to establish effective regulatory frameworks that promote the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals through the use of AI.

The BigTech event, which ran from June 26-29, 2024, was inaugurated by Dr. Nizar Ben Neji, Tunisian Minister of Communication Technologies.
