Iraqi Minister of Higher Education receives Director-General of ALECSO

 

H.E. Dr. Na'im Al-Abboudi, Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received, on April 30, 2024 at the Ministry's headquarters, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, who was accompanied by Dr. Sami Zayoud, Mr. Abdelhak Haif and Ms. Sally Hattab.

The Minister welcomed the Director-General of ALECSO and his accompanying delegation, and thanked them for this visit which will strengthen partnership and open up wider prospects for cooperation between ALECSO and the Ministry. 

The Minister commended ALECSO’s achievements benefiting Arab countries in the fields of education, culture and science, stressing the Ministry’s continued support for the Organization so that it remains a beacon of science and thought in the Arab world.

The Minister stressed the need to prioritize scientific research, accord further attention to the Arab University Ranking project, and coordinate with partner organizations to upgrade the performance of Arab universities, noting that scientific research is now key to the advancement and development of countries.

For his part, the Director-General thanked the Minister for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, noting that this meeting offers a precious opportunity to exchange ideas and views and discuss ways of enhancing joint work between the two parties. He commended the role of Iraq and its support for the Organization and its projects so that it can pursue its mandate in best conditions.

The Iraqi Minister announced the granting of 250 full-fee scholarships to study in Iraqi universities, and 250 half-fee scholarships for Arab countries, starting from the academic year 2024-2025.

The two parties agreed to pursue cooperation and consultation in light of the common visions discussed during the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the Director-General presented the Iraqi Minister with the “ALECSO Shield”.
