H.E. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received, on April 16, 2024, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, who was on an official visit to Egypt.
The meeting discussed ways of enhancing mutual cooperation in the field of science and scientific research. It was agreed, among other things, to build a database of Arab scholars in the diaspora with the aim of strengthening research projects in Arab countries and abroad, as well as to benefit from the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, the world’s largest digital library. Launched by H.E. President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, this pioneering initiative is designed to grant Egyptians of all ages the opportunity to access the greatest amount of knowledge in the field of technology, humanities or administrative sciences.
The Minister expressed appreciation of the significant level of cooperation with ALECSO, commending its role in supporting the efforts of Arab countries in its areas of competence, as well as in advancing scientific research across the Arab world. The Minister stressed Egypt's continued support for ALECSO so that it can best fulfil its mandate.
For his part, the Director-General reaffirmed ALECSO’s keenness to pursue fruitful cooperation with Egypt in the fields of education, culture and science.
As part of the EGYAID initiative, it was agreed that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research would provide scholarships to ALECSO for the benefit of countries with special needs. It was also agreed that the two sides would continue coordination for developing mechanisms for the implementation of this program.
At the end of the meeting, the Egyptian Minister and the ALECSO Director-General exchanged commemorative shields.
