“Wedding Zaffa in Traditional Marriage” file submitted for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

 

H.E. Mr. Ayeid Mousseid Yahya, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the French Republic and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, along with the representatives of ALECSO, Dr. Imed Soula and Mrs. Afifa Ziyadi, submitted the nomination file of “Wedding Zaffa in Traditional Marriage” for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The file was prepared under the chairmanship of Djibouti, with the participation of Comoros, UAE, Iraq, Jordan, Mauritania, and Somalia.

The file, whose preparation has been supervised by ALECSO, highlights the rituals, oral traditions, and social practices associated with the Wedding Zaffa, an essential stage in the traditional marriage ceremony. 

The file is expected to be considered for inscription at the 2025 session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
