ALECSO organizes capacity-building workshop in Libya

 

The training workshop to build Libyan capacities in monitoring, following up and evaluating sustainable development indicators, hosted by the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, was concluded on February 22, 2024, in Tripoli, Libya.

The workshop was held under the patronage of H.E. Minister of Education of the State of Libya, with the participation of the General Center for Training and Education Development in the State of Libya and the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and science. 

The workshop was organized by the ALECSO Observatory (ICT Department) in cooperation with the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics. It was moderated by Dr. Tarek Ben Youssef, from the ALECSO Observatory, and Dr. Hadi Al-Saidi, Director-General of the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics. It was attended by representatives of the National Bureau of Statistics, along with officials in charge of planning and statistics in ministries concerned with education, R&D, IT, and culture. 

The workshop discussed the process of monitoring progress in SDG implementation, and the ways of improving the framework for officials in charge of statistics and indicators in relevant ministries, institutions, observatories and statistical bureaus.

The workshop was an opportunity to introduce participants to the latest technologies used in database management. It also sought to familiarize statistical bureaus with how to improve their websites in a manner that best meets the users’ needs.

The workshop addressed other related aspects,  including methods for data collection, the relationship of statistical bureaus and observatories with other relevant ministries, agencies and institutions, the quality challenges facing statistical bureaus,  relations with users, and the tools used for data dissemination.
