The second expert meeting for the finalization of the “Bisht” file for inscription on the UNESCO intangible heritage list, coordinated by the State of Qatar with the participation of ten Arab States, was held on February 19, 2024, in Doha, Qatar, in cooperation with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and the Qatari Ministry of Culture.
Addressing the opening session, Dr. Hamid bin Saif Al-Nawfali, Director of the Culture Department, conveyed the greetings of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO. He highlighted the special attention that the Director-General attaches to the successful preparation of the “Bisht” file and all joint Arab inscription files, and stressed ALECSO’s readiness to support Arab countries in preparing and submitting their files for inscription on UNESCO’s heritage lists.
The Secretary-General of the Qatari National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Mr. Ali Al-Maarafi, thanked the Organization for its efforts in coordinating the successful preparation of joint Arab inscription files.
H.E. Sheikha Najla Al-Thani, Director of the Heritage and Identity Department at the Ministry of Culture, welcomed the ALECSO delegation and all the participating experts, and wished them success in their work for the timely submission of the “Bisht” inscription file.
