The ALECSO Observatory has released its 11th Statistical Bulletin under the title: “Follow-up to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Research, Development and IT – Mid-term Report (2015-2022) : Measuring Progress towards the set goals.”
This issue of the Bulletin focuses on progress made so far towards achieving the targets of Goal 9 of the Sustainable Development Agenda, especially as regards scientific research, development and information technology. It provides analysis of objective data and indicators drawn from reliable, high-quality and comparable sources. The Observatory has also prepared estimates and projections for 2030.
Analysis of the data reveals large disparities among Arab countries in terms of available infrastructure and resources. Accordingly, it will be difficult to achieve the goals related to research and development in most Arab countries that lack a science and technology policy with specific parameters, goals and means of implementation, bodies for coordination between research institutions, and specialized funds for financing research and development.
