ALECSO organizes World Conference on   Food Security in the Arab World During and After Crises

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization organized, on December 20, 2023, at its headquarters in Tunis, the “World Conference on Food Security in the Arab World During and After Crises”, in partnership with the Islamic Organization for Food Security. 

The Conference was attended by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, H.E. Mr. Abdelmonem Belaâti, Tunisian  Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, along with Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Tunisia.

Addressing the Conference, the Director-General of ALECSO commended the wide and active participation of researchers and experts in this Conference, and their support for ALECSO’s goals, programs and projects. He indicated that ALECSO has worked on organizing this conference in cooperation with the IOFS to address the issue of food security,  one of the key issues facing the world’s countries since the mid-20th century.  The Conference, he added, is part of a joint endeavor to strengthen the ALECSO-IOFS partnership with the aim of developing solutions to food security issues in the Arab world, in addition to providing ways to meet the increasing socio-economic challenges and financial and global crises.

For his part, The Tunisian Minister of Agriculture welcomed all Tunisia’s guests, and highlighted the importance of the Conference which addresses the current situation and future challenges in relation to food security. The Conference, he added, focuses on the role of digital technologies in addressing this issue, and discusses ways of benefiting from successful experiences and regional integration to enhance food security. 

The Director-General of ALECSO honored the institutions and personalities participating in the Conference in appreciation of their keen efforts to advance joint Arab action.

The Conference addressed a range of themes, including the ways of enhancing global cooperation in response to food security challenges, the ways of promoting the use modern technology to develop agriculture in pursuit of food security, and the concept of food security and how it relates to health, energy and water resources.
