The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization, and its Director-General, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, mourn the prominent Palestinian scientist Sufian Tayeh who was martyred, along with his family, in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.
Sufian Tayeh was a prominent Palestinian scientist and the president of the Islamic University of Gaza. A leading researcher in physics and applied mathematics, he was classified as one of two percent of the best researchers in the world. His research has been recognized internationally, including by UNESCO. He held the UNESCO chair in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Sciences in Palestine. He was a recipient of Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Young Arab Scientists.
ALECSO condemns the Zionist entity’s crimes against the Palestinian people, whose aim is to liquidate prominent scholars and destroy the academic and educational infrastructure in Gaza and in Palestine in general, including schools, universities, and cultural and artistic facilities, in total disregard of all international and humanitarian conventions and treaties.
