ALECSO commemorates International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) commemorated, on December 1, 2023, at its headquarters in Tunis, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, jointly with the Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Republic of Tunisia.

The celebration was opened by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ali Boughdiri, Tunisian Minister of Education, H.E. Mr. Arnaud Peral, UN Resident Coordinator for Tunisia, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saleh Jumeh, Head of the Arab Group to UNESCO, H.E. Mr. Hayel Al-Fahoum, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Tunisia, along with the representative of the Council of Europe in Tunisia, and a number of Arab Ambassadors and Consuls accredited to Tunisia.

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People offers a renewed opportunity to draw the international community’s attention to the fact that the Palestinian issue is still unresolved, and that the Palestinian people have not yet regained their legitimate rights on their independent land, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

In his statement on this occasion, the Director-General of ALECSO, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, underlined the importance of commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which coincides this year with the war of extermination waged by the Israeli army against the defenseless Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip since October 7th. He reaffirmed ALECSO’s absolute support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish their independent State on their land, indicating that ALECSO will ramp up efforts at all levels to support the State of Palestine in the fields of education, culture and science.

Dr. Mohamed Ali Boughdiri, Tunisian Education Minister, reaffirmed, on his part, the support of the Tunisian leadership, government, and people for their brothers in Gaza, and expressed Tunisia’s pride in the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.  He commended the Arab national efforts, backed by ALECSO represented by its Director-General Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, in supporting the Arab and Palestinian rights.

Mr. Arnaud Peral, UN Resident Coordinator for Tunisia, emphasized the need to unify global efforts to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, and ensure delivery of aid and basic life necessities to meet humanitarian needs.

Mr. Hayel Al-Fahoum, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Tunisia, commended the efforts made by ALECSO to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in various fields.

The event featured an exhibition of paintings about Palestine, a short video showing the suffering of Palestine’s children amid the Israeli aggression, a poetry recitation, and a musical performance, in addition to a panel discussion on “The right of Palestine’s children to life, health, education, security, and steadfastness on their land”.

At the conclusion of the event, the Director-General of ALECSO and the Palestinian Ambassador honored the personalities and artists participating in the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
