ALECSO participates in 42nd  General Conference of UNESCO

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) participated in the 42nd General Conference of UNESCO, held on November 7-22, 2023, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

This event was attended by representatives of Member States, international and regional organizations, governmental and non-governmental partners, and civil society.

The 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference features Ministerial sessions, high-level meetings, and committee meetings.

Participants discussed UNESCO’s policies and work directions, as well as its budget and main programs in its areas of competence, within a global context riven by tensions and crises, where the Palestinian people are subjected to brutal aggression at the hand of  the occupation army, killing their infants, children, women, and elderly people, and demolishing residential buildings, hospitals, schools, mosques, and churches, all before the eyes, and amid the silence, of the world.

ALECSO also participated in the meeting of the SDG4 High-level Steering Committee, which came out with a set of decisions aimed at accelerating implementation of Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and following up on countries’ commitments with regard to the outcomes of the Transforming Education Summit.

The Steering Committee’s composition was renewed to include ALECSO along with Saudi Arabia and Yemen as members representing Arab countries.
