The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) appreciates the Resolution adopted by the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit on the situation in the Gaza Strip, and in Palestine in general. The Summit was hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh on November 11, 2023, in the presence of the Kings and Heads of Arab and Islamic States. The resolution condemned the war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation authorities, and called for breaking the siege imposed on Gaza, as well as for stopping the export of weapons and ammunition to Israel.
ALECSO also appreciates UNESCO’s adoption of the draft resolution submitted by the Arab Group under the title: “Impact and consequences of the current situation in the Gaza Strip/Palestine in all aspects of UNESCO's mandate.” The resolution was adopted by a majority vote of Member States during the 42nd session of the General Conference of UNESCO.
ALECSO stresses the importance of UNESCO’s adoption of the resolution calling for an immediate halt to the targeting of civilians, especially children, women, youth, teachers and other education workers, as well as the targeting of schools, colleges and universities.
