The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) participated in the meetings of the Advisory Board of the Global Education Monitoring Report, held at UNESCO headquarters on October 26-27, 2023.
ALECSO was represented by Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of the Department of Science and Scientific Research.
As one of the specialized organizations active in the fields of education, culture and science in the Arab world, ALECSO was chosen to be a member of this Board as from 2023.
Dr. Abu Darwish conveyed the greetings of ALECSO’s Director-General to the GEM Report Team. He thanked them for the confidence placed in ALECSO in view of its sustained efforts to advance the fields of education, culture and science, as well as to promote scientific research, in line with the vision and goals set out in the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology and Innovation. He indicated that ALECSO welcomes cooperation with all international institutions and bodies in pursuit of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
The meetings reviewed the previous session’s GEM Report, with special focus on ‘youth and science’, ‘education and climate change’, and ‘education and technology’. It also addressed the future action plan of the Advisory Council till 2028.
During the Board meetings, Dr. Abu Darwish highlighted the activities and initiatives carried out by the Department of Science and Scientific Research, especially those designed to enhance the sense of entrepreneurship and innovation among youth, to support Arab female researchers, to serve the scientific, research and academic community, and to address climate change and environmental challenges.
Dr. Abu Darwish indicated that ALECSO, upon the directives of its Director-General, stands ready to disseminate the GEM Report to all Arab countries, and thus contribute, as member of the Advisory Board, to serving its goals and publicizing the outcomes of its work .
