Under the high patronage of Tunisia’s Head of Government,   ALECSO holds International Conference on Learning Loss

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, chaired the opening session of the International Conference on “Learning Loss: Diagnosis and Remedies Within a Vision of Education Transformation,” organized by ALECSO in partnership with the Tunisian Ministry of Education, UNICEF, and other regional and international organizations, and with the participation of Arab Education Ministries.

In his opening remarks, the Director-General welcomed all participants and reaffirmed ALECSO’s solidarity with the Palestinian people.  He expressed his thanks to H.E. Mr. Ahmed Hachani, Head of Government of Tunisia, for having placed the Conference under his high patronage.

The Director-General pointed out that the issue of learning loss is high on ALECSO’s agenda, especially in view of the effects left behind by the COVID-19 pandemic on education in the Arab region and all over the world.  This, he added, requires searching for efficient solutions aligned with the transforming education  vision, in order to make further progress in achieving Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Director-General stressed that ALECSO is seeking, jointly with its partners, to formulate strategies and plans designed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals through education, and to develop permanent solutions to the learning loss problem.

For his part, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ali Boughdiri, Tunisian Education Minister, welcomed all participants, and commended the efforts exerted by ALECSO. He highlighted Tunisia’s efforts and forward-looking vision in the field of education, and presented, in this regard, the “Modern School on Every Hill” project.

Representatives of international organizations and Arab Ministers of Education commended, through (in-person and virtual) interventions,  the convening of the Conference and the crucial importance of the issue of learning loss, which needs to be addressed in-depth by all relevant stakeholders. They expressed hope that the Conference would come out with conclusions and recommendations that would serve as a roadmap for the future.

During the opening ceremony, the Director-General offered the ALECSO Shield to H.E. Mr. Ahmed Hachani, Tunisian Head of Government.
