ALECSO organizes Training Workshop on “The Use of Blockchain in Education” 

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held, on October 9-10, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt, a training workshop on “The Use of Blockchain in Education”, in cooperation with the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, Cairo University, and the Supreme Council of Universities.

The workshop was attended by Dr. Ahmed Ragab, Vice-President for Students Affairs at Cairo University, Dr. Mona Hagras, Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities, Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT Department at ALECSO, and Mr. Assayed Al-Absi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture. 

This two-day workshop was organized at Cairo University, with about 40 participants, on Day One, from the Supreme Council of Universities and various colleges affiliated with Cairo University. On Day Two, 15 trainees attended a training course designed for the University staff, focusing on ALECSO’s unified Arab Blockchain-based certificate authentication  system. This project is being executed in implementation of a recommendation adopted at the 18th Conference of Arab Ministers of  Higher Education and Scientific Research, held in Algeria in December 2021.

In his statement to the workshop, read out on his behalf by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT Department, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, highlighted the importance of the workshop and stressed the key role of ICT in developing educational systems and keeping pace with digital developments.  He presented, in this regard, ALECSO’s project to develop a unified Arab Blockchain-based certificate authentication  system, designed to help educational and university institutions ensure the credibility of their official documents and the transparency of their information.

ALECSO projects to promote digital transformation in the Arab world were reviewed during the workshop, including those designed to promote the use of Blockchain technology in education. 

Blockchain is today one the widely used technologies in the world, given the significant services and  benefits it provides for the development of educational systems.
