The ALECSO Observatory has released its 10th Statistical Bulletin (June 2023) entitled : “Follow-up of SDG implementation in the field of education : Are Arab countries progressing toward achieving Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Agenda?”
The Bulletin reviews the progress made so far towards achieving the Targets of Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Agenda, based on the available objective data and indicators drawn from reliable, high-quality and comparable sources. The bulletin also provides estimates and projections for 2030.
Data and indicators show that the world, including the Arab countries, is not well on the path toward fulfilling the international commitments related to education. Since 2015, no clear progress has actually been made in terms of completion of primary and secondary education. One child out of two completes primary education, and less than one out of two acquires minimum proficiency in reading, writing and numeracy at the end of primary education.
The Bulletin highlights large disparities among Arab countries in terms of available infrastructure and capabilities. Accordingly, it calls on Arab countries to step up action to raise the level of education and thus make significant progress in implementing Goal 4 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
