ALECSO participates in IOFS High-Level Forum 

 

 

The Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization took part, on October 1-3, 2023, in Doha, Qatar, in the “High-Level Forum of the Islamic Organization for Food Security”, which was attended by representatives from specialized Arab, Islamic and international institutions, bodies and organizations concerned with food security issues.

The Forum addressed a range of issues and topics related to global food security, including the development of national food sectors, investments in the food industry, and agricultural food projects throughout the region. It also discussed ways of facing the challenges posed by the global food crisis, especially those resulting from the effects of climate change.

ALECSO was represented in this Forum by Dr. Mohammed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of Science and Scientific Research, who highlighted the importance of this event which provided an opportunity for decision-makers and relevant experts  and researchers to exchange views on food security issues, in the presence of a large number of relevant Arab, Islamic and international organizations. He pointed out that food security is a present-day issue that requires concerted efforts at the Arab, Islamic and international levels.

ALECSO’s participation in this Forum is aligned with its efforts to address food security issues. It is worth recalling, in this regard, that the Department of Science and Scientific Research is preparing to hold, jointly with the IOFS and other specialized Arab and international organizations, a Conference on “Food Security During and After Crises”, scheduled to take place at ALECSO headquarters in Tunis on December 20-21, 2023.  The conference will address a range of topics, including in particular the ways to promote global cooperation in the face of food security challenges, the ways to leverage modern technology to develop agricultural activity, and the concept of food security in relation to health, energy and water as a single unit.
