The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization took part in the 12th Conference of Culture Ministers in the Islamic World, held in Doha, Qatar, on September 25-26, 2023 under the high patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, under the theme : “Towards the Renewal of Cultural Action in the Islamic World”.
H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, was represented in this meeting by Dr. Mourad Mahmoudi, Secretary of the Executive Board and General Conference, Acting Director of the Culture Department, who delivered a statement on this occasion on behalf of the Director-General.
The opening session featured a statement by Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General and a short video on “Doha : Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021”. Ms. Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO, gave a paper entitled “The Role of Culture in Today’s World”, in which she highlighted the role of Doha as a hub for dialogue among cultures and civilizations. She reviewed the key issues to be discussed during the Conference, and concluded by congratulating the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the success of the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee.
During the opening session, the chairmanship of the Conference was handed over from the Republic of Tunisia to the State of Qatar.
