112th session of the Economic and Social Council Concludes in Cairo

 

The meetings of the 112th session of the Economic and Social Council, at ministerial level, were concluded on August 31, 2023 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt. 

The closing meeting was attended by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, along with the Ministers and Heads of Arab Delegations, the Ambassadors Permanent Delegates to the Arab League, and the Directors of Arab Organizations.

The meeting discussed  significant issues, most notably the Economic and Social Development item on the agenda of the 33rd Arab Summit, to be held in Bahrain in 2024. It also adopted a decision regarding preparations for the 5th session of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, to be held in Nouakchott, Mauritania, on November 6-7, 2023, as well as a decision regarding amendment of the rules and criteria for the establishment of specialized Arab organizations and entities affiliated with the Arab League.

With regard to matters of concern to ALECSO, a decision was taken approving the establishment of the Arab Translation Observatory, which will be based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the umbrella of ALECSO.

Another decision approved the recommendations adopted by the 55th session of the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action regarding the establishment of the ALECSO Fund for Scientific Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

ALECSO was represented in this meeting by an official delegation headed by Dr. Sami Zayoud, Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs, and including Mr. Abdelhak Haif, Head of Office of the Director-General.
