Under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ali Boughdiri, Tunisian Minister of Education, ALECSO hosted, on July 12, 2023 at its headquarters in Tunis, the first edition of the “Arab Mental Calculation Championship”, held in partnership with the International Diamond Brain Gate.
ALECSO organizes this competition as part of strengthening cooperation with civil society institutions active in the field of education, with the aim of developing students’ abilities in terms of concentration, visualization, imagination, self-confidence, and mental arithmetic, in accordance with international standards.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, stated that ALECSO is hosting this first edition of the Arab Mental Calculation Championship as part of its action program which includes a wide range of activities and initiatives in various fields, including setting standards, developing capacities, conducting policy research, providing statistical information to improve learning processes and outcomes, and producing reports and reference documents.
For his part, Dr. Rami Iskander, Director of the Education Department, indicated that over 100 Arab children, aged 6 to 16, from Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Oman, Iraq, Libya, Palestine, and Lebanon, are taking part in the competition.
